5 Non-Sleep Training Sleep Tips

If you’re looking for ways to help your little one get a good night’s sleep, there are many strategies that don’t involve sleep training. Melody Patton Sleep Consulting, believes in empowering families with the tools and strategies to find sleep success.

That’s why we have compiled a list of five non-sleep training tips to help your child rest.

1. Establish a Bedtime Routine:

Having a consistent bedtime routine helps signal to your child that it’s time to wind down for the night. This can include activities like a warm bath, reading a story, singing a lullaby, or giving a massage. The important thing is to make sure the routine remains consistent each night.

2. Keep the Bedroom Dark and Quiet:

Even if your little one isn’t ready to sleep, they should still be in a dark and quiet environment. This will help create the optimal environment to sleep. If you’re finding it hard to keep the room dark, consider blackout curtains.

3. Manage Your Child’s Stimulation:

Too much stimulation before bedtime can make it difficult for your child to settle down and get to sleep. Try to limit screen time, intense activities, and loud noises before bed. Keep the bedroom a place of calm and relaxation.

Keep in mind that many baby items include blue lights that move around. Blue light is shown to increase stimulation for our brains, so keep any small lights in the bedroom warm colored (yellow or orange are ideal).

4. Set a Reasonable Bedtime:

Setting a reasonable bedtime is essential for helping your child get a good night’s sleep. This bedtime should be consistent, even on the weekends. This will help create a sleep schedule that your child’s body can recognize and adhere to.

Most infants older than 3 months needs a bedtime between 6:30-7:30 pm.

5. Make Sure Your Child is Comfortable:

Comfort is key for helping your little one get to sleep. Make sure your child’s pajamas are soft and cozy, and that the temperature in the bedroom isn’t too hot or too cold.

Using a sleep sack can help keep them warm and comfortable, and stay within safe sleep guidelines.

A sleep sack doesn’t have to be a big investment, Halo makes affordable and versatile swaddles and sleep sacks.
