Sexual Health Workshops in Calgary

Our workshop partner, psychologist Dr. Lauren Walker, leads these educational workshops. Participants are guided to select a treatment goal most relevant to them, and supported in creating an individually tailored treatment plan for that goal. Participants are encouraged to submit questions ahead of time, or ask them during the workshop.

Receipts can be provided for extended health care benefit reimbursement.

Dr. Lauren Walker
PhD

Registered Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Walker loves helping people enhance their intimate relationships and sexual lives. As a therapist, researcher, author and entrepreneur, Dr. Walker focuses on translating science about sexuality in practical ways with the goal of reducing stigma about sexuality and mental health. She also directs Walker Psychological, a group practice offering sex therapy for couples and individuals in Alberta. 

After obtaining her PhD in Clinical Psychology in 2013, she completed a specialized clinical fellowship in sexual dysfunction after cancer treatment, receiving mentorship from nationally recognized experts in sexual medicine. She also directs the Oncology Sexual Health Lab at the University of Calgary, is an Adjunct Associate Professor, and has written over 50 scientific publications on the topic of cancer and sex. She was also recognized with Calgary’s Avenue Magazine Top 40 Under 40 award for her work developing innovative sexual health programs for cancer patients.

Though she’s not sure the “perfect balance” really exists, she tries to balance career and motherhood, spending time with her young daughter. She enjoys skiing, golfing, and working out, listening to and playing music, and enjoying quality time with friends.

Sex After Baby

Discover ways to proactively stay connected in non-intercourse focused ways during the pregnancy and postpartum period. This workshop covers best practices regarding resuming sexual activity after baby, strategies for easing back into activity, and ways to manage vaginal health including pain and discomfort. Participants will discuss how to prioritize communication about sexuality, and reduce pressure regarding sexual expectations.

Ideal participants are those entering third trimester and up to one year postpartum, or those struggling to return to sexual connection.

Vaginal & Sexual Health Education

Learn about common sexual concerns and ways to improve your sex life, including how to manage low desire and sexual pain, and ways to improve arousal, pleasure, and sexual communication.

Participants will receive a video-recorded check-in one month after the workshop to encourage them to reach their goals, and provide other resources if needed.
