Dr. Laine Racher is a Pediatrician in Calgary providing care for babies from 0-12 months of age. She offers both consultation care for complex medical needs and developmental concerns, as well as primary well-baby care for families who do not have a Family Physician.

Dr. Laine Racher (she/her) is a community pediatrician with a passion for newborns and their families.

She completed medical school at the University of Alberta in 2008, and then paediatric residency training at the University of Calgary in 2012. For over a decade she has worked both as a general pediatrician and with the Newborn Nursery Team at the Foothills Medical Center. Through this, she has had the true pleasure of caring for thousands of newborns.

Dr. Racher is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, a member of the Canadian Paediatrics Society, holds a Clinical Faculty Appointment at the University of British Columbia and is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Calgary.

Dr. Racher is proud to be the mother to a lovely young daughter and step-mother to two fantastic adolescents. She adores spending time with her husband, children and their beloved labrador retriever. They embrace a rich outdoor lifestyle by skiing, biking, hiking, swimming and getting into nature as much as they can. They also love music and art.

Your Guide to Pediatric Care in Calgary at Ensemble Healthcare

  • Yes! While pediatric care in Calgary is typically limited to consultations for medical or developmental concerns, Dr. Racher recognizes the difficulties many families have accessing primary care at this time. She loves caring for newborns, and is thrilled to offer the increased care, support and guidance needed during the initial year of life.
    Dr. Racher is passionate about nurturing the infant-caregiver dyad and ensuring families have a happy and healthy start to their journey together. She would be delighted to share her expertise and dedication with you.

  • Yes, Dr. Racher kindly requests that you seek a referral to our clinic from a physician, nurse practitioner or midwife. A referral allows significantly more time at each visit to tenderly attend to your child’s needs.
    Referrals can be faxed to: 587 887-2211.

  • When Dr. Racher is in clinic at Ensemble on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, phone calls are answered between 8am-4pm (MST). Existing patients may contact the clinic through the electronic medical record (EMR) with non-urgent questions or issues. For semi-urgent issues we recommend calling Healthlink at 811. For emergency issues please call 911 or take your child to the nearest Emergency Room Department.

Pediatric Care Policies

  • Pre-visit questionnaires may be emailed to you prior to your visits. We ask that you fill them out prior to arriving at the clinic. The information you provide in these forms helps us to make the most of your appointment time.

  • We encourage you to sign up for MyHealth Records to access your results. We will contact you to discuss any abnormal results that require explanation or further follow-up. Feel free to contact us via secure messaging if you have any questions about your results.

  • In accordance with the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) guidelines we require patients to pay directly for services that are not insured by the Alberta Government. The most common examples of this are filling out insurance forms and providing letters for employers. Prices are based on the AMA recommendations; please let us know if cost is a barrier for you. Payments are accepted via e-transfer.

  • Virtual care can be an effective tool to enhance patient care. Secure email messaging may be used to deliver general advice, manage administrative concerns, and communicate non-urgent results. Phone or video calls may be used to address issues or concerns that require limited physical examination of the patient. We make every effort to maintain private and secure communication, and will ask you to do the same.

  • Our physicians are dedicated to training others, and as such, you may encounter medical students, residents and other physicians during your visits. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about our learners.
