Postpartum Group
Support Programs

Physician-led sessions supporting families in the first year of your baby’s life.

Any new parent will tell you that the first few months of baby’s life can be a lot! New parents are often:

  • Tired as they recover from baby’s birth and adjust to caring for a newborn at nighttime

  • Frustrated with feeding and sleep challenges

  • Lonely and surprised at how isolated they feel as their daily routine changes completely

  • Unsure of where to turn for help, support, and answers to their questions

Small group sessions with our team of experts provide information, support, and a chance to build community. Our hope is to allow you to free up time and mental energy to enjoy the precious early days with your baby while you recover from your delivery.

About Our Postpartum Programs in Calgary

We’ve developed our programs to provide the support we wish we’d had.

  • Unlike other postpartum group classes, our innovative model is unique in that it includes physician facilitators.

Our practitioners are thrilled to be able to engage in discussions that provide more information to supplement what patients receive in their one-on-one office appointments with their care providers.

  • Collaboration is one of our core values. We have brought together a team of professionals who are all passionate about perinatal care, and who all have unique skills and knowledge to share.

Our team of facilitators is made up of:

    • Family Physicians who specialize in Low Risk Obstetrics and Lactation

    • A Pediatrician

    • Registered Nurses who specialize in Lactation and Sleep Consultation

    • A Physiotherapist

    • A Psychologist and a Clinical Social Worker

  • Our curriculum covers all of the important topics for new parents - both the ones that you’re wondering about AND the ones that you didn’t realize you wanted to learn about.

Our sessions are dedicated to delivering evidence-based information. While this information can be found in books and on the internet, we distill and present it to you in an easily digestible format. We know how tired you are, and our goal is to simplify things for you. We combine this knowledge with practical tips that you won’t find in books, and we help you sift through the vast sea of online information to identify the valuable insights.

While our curriculum covers a wide range of essential topics, we always encourage questions and tailor our discussions to the specific needs of our participants.

  • Over programs offer weekly sessions to provide regular support. We know how huge a difference hours and days can make as families navigate feeding challenges in the early days.

We are excited to offer programs that start in late pregnancy through the first 6 months of baby’s life. We hope that we can provide care and comfort in those early days of parenthood.

  • Our primary objective is to create an inclusive environment where we can foster engaging and meaningful discussion. By actively involving parents and caregivers, we aspire to not only enhance your learning but also to provide reassurance and empower you as you learn both from and with other families who are going through similar experiences and challenges.

Our goal is to help you build a community that will support you long after you finish our program.

Postpartum Group Support Programs FAQs

  • Our classes have limited capacity, and your registration reserves a spot that could be filled by another participant. We understand that life can be unpredictable, so we have established the following cancellation policy:

    • Please contact us via email (info@ensemblehealthcare.ca) to cancel your registration. Up until 14 days before the first class a refund, minus a $25 administrative fee, will be provided. Refunds within 14 days of the first class or after the program has begun will only be offered in cases of emergency or extenuating circumstances, with each situation being reviewed individually.

    • If the program is canceled by Ensemble Healthcare we will provide a full refund.

    • At this time, we are not able to offer make-up classes if you miss a class due to illness or other unavoidable reasons.

We reserve the right to cancel or reschedule classes due to unforeseen circumstances, such as instructor illness or inclement weather. In such cases, we will make every effort to notify participants in advance and provide alternative arrangements or refunds.

  • We are excited to welcome you to the group room in our clinic. We are located on the third floor of the Market Mall Professional Building. There is plenty of free parking.

  • We keep our groups small at 4-6 families to allow for discussion and to ensure that we have time to answer everyone’s questions.

A Bit About Us

  • We are parents and caregivers.

As parents, our facilitators have ‘been there’. We know what it feels like to try to function through a fog of sleep deprivation and physical healing. We know how feelings of shame, guilt, frustration and worry can be overwhelming as a new parent.

As caregivers, we have delighted in cuddling many newborns over the years, but we have also witnessed patients struggling, and worried about how their families are doing between office visits.

We don’t expect that our programs will prevent our families from struggling. Parenting is hard - that’s part of what makes it so rewarding. Our hope with this offering is to provide families with strategies and support as they navigate the challenges that they face.

  • We are also healthcare providers and innovators.

As healthcare providers who have dedicated their careers to caring for women and families through pregnancy and beyond, we have supported hundreds of patients over the years through their postpartum journey. Working within the system, we see firsthand how well patients are taken care, AND where there is room to offer more.

As innovators, having built and led group programs, we are passionate about this model of care. As practitioners we have realized how rewarding it is to have the time to be able to dive deeper into topics. We have also seen how individuals benefit from group discussions - the visible relief someone experiences when they divulge something they have been struggling with and another participant nods their head in solidarity then shares their own experience, or how the whole room leans in to hear the answer when someone asks a question.

We see a way to provide more support to families, and we are delighted to use our knowledge and experience to deliver an impactful program.
